From there, the conquest of Arrakis begins, and players must send out ornithopters to explore landmarks, cities, crash sites, and the deep desert in search of resources. Players can also choose trusted councilors to aid in their conquest and gain additional gameplay bonuses. Each faction comes with its own gameplay bonuses, such as options to conquer territories peacefully instead of by force. These factions include the fearsome House Harkonnen and the diplomatic House Atreides. The original iterations of Dune video games captured the legacy of the book series in the form of real-time strategy gameplay, and Dune: Spice Wars will continue this trend. At the start of a game, players can select one of four factions to play as, with more factions to be added in future updates. Shiro Games has set out to create the quintessential Dune gaming experience, and if Dune: Spice Wars gameplay footage is to be believed, it could be a success. Spice Wars includes much of what made Frank Herbert's Dune captivating: politics, espionage, sand worms, war, spice, and more. Dune: Spice Wars, an upcoming 4x strategy game from Funcom and Shiro Games, is set to bring the sands of Arrakis to PCs everywhere.
